TPP1 is a homologue of ciliate TEBP-[beta] and interacts with POT1 to recruit telomerase
Article Abstract:
The telomeric protein TPP1 is shown to be a putative mammalian homologue of ciliate TEBP-[beta] and contains a predicted amino-terminal oligonucleotide/oligosaccharide binding (OB) fold. The analysis has highlighted the TPP1's role in telomere maintenance and has supported a yin-yang model in which TPP1 and POT1 have functioned as a unit to protect human telomeres, by both positively and negatively regulating telomerase accesses to telomere DNA.

Regulation of telomere length and function by a Myb-domain protein in fission yeast
Article Abstract:
A genetic screen is used to identify a telomere protein in the fission yeast Taz1p. Taz1p shares homology to the Myb proto-oncogene DNA-binding domain with human TTAGGG repeat factor. The taz1+ gene induces a massive radical increase in telomere length. Taz1p is necessary for the repression of telomere-adjacent gene expression and for normal meiosis or sporulation.

DNA self-recognition in the structure of Pot1 bound to telomeric single-stranded DNA
Article Abstract:
Telomeres, specialized protein-DNA complexes that cap the ends of linear chromosomes, are essential for protecting chromosomes from degradation and end-to-end fusions. The protection of telomeres 1 (Pot1) protein is essential for telomere maintenance and is a widely distributed eukaryotic end-capping protein.
